What we do

Nurturing wellbeing through the power of stories and poems

We are a dedicated group of educationalists and parents who are committed to ensuring that every family has the tools to foster their child's literacy, creativity and wellbeing. Our aim is to bridge the educational gap by offering free workshops and resources to strengthen family connection and nurture bonding through books. We also believe passionately in the vital importance of nurturing a sense of belonging by celebrating local heritage and culture through the timeless power of storytelling, poetry and play.

Director

Pet Henshaw is an experienced primary teacher and trainer with a history of over three decades in education. Pet's educational philosophy revolves around championing research-driven strategies in child development. Pet is dedicated to empowering every child to experience success and supporting communities to find joy in the world of reading.

Jenny Rainbow has worked as a teacher, consultant and headteacher in the Midlands and in Cornwall bringing a wealth of experience in education, leadership and supporting children and families. Throughout her career, she has been passionate about helping every child build confidence, develop a love of learning and reach their full potential. Jenny's expertise is invaluable in helping Butterfly Literacy support children, families and communities to thrive. 

Lauren Crow is the proud mother of two wonderful young boys. Her lived experience has given her a deep understanding of the foundations needed to nurture language and literacy in the early years, as well as the vital role parents play in supporting children’s development. Butterfly Literacy is privileged to benefit from Lauren’s warmth, wisdom, creativity and valuable insight into the needs of children and families.
